Specialized Overweight Permits

Port Freeport allows shippers to securely order specialized overweight permits online. The permits cover travel over the Port Freeport roads listed below for vehicles weighing no more than the Mexican Legal Weight Limit or 125,000 lbs. For a more detailed explanation, see below.

Permit Information
The Port Freeport administers the Port Freeport overweight corrider and facilitates the Port Freeport Specialized Overweight Permits that allow for the movement of overweight vehicles carrying cargo on the following roads:

  • (1) The intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 523 and Moller Road to the entrance of Port Freeport using Farm-to-Market Roads 523 and 1495; The intersection of State Highway 288 and Chlorine Road to the entrance of Port Freeport using State Highway 288; The intersection of State Highway 288 and Chlorine Road to the entrance of Port Freeport using State Highways 288 and 332 and Farm-to-Market Roads 523 and 1495; The intersection of North Velasco Boulevard and South Avenue J in the city of Freeport to the entrance of Port Freeport using North Velasco Boulevard and Farm-to-Market Road 1495.

  • (2) North from the intersection of SH 36 /FM1495, continuing on SH523/FM1495 N/E to SH332, then crosses over SH 332/SH288 north, and continues on SH 523/SH288 (bypass) and ends at the intersection of Moller Road and SH 523.

  • (3) 21441 Loop 419 in the city of Sweeny to the entrance of Port Freeport using Loop 419, State Highways 35 and 36, and Farm-to-Market Road 1495.

  • (4) 21441 Loop 419 in the city of Sweeny to the entrance of Port Freeport using Loop 419, State Highways 35 and 36, and Farm-to-Market Road 1495; 5261 Seventh Street in Bay City to the entrance of Port Freeport using State Highway 35, Loop 419, State Highway 36, and Farm-to-Market Road 1495.

The gross weight of cargo and equipment shall not exceed the allowable permittable axle load, the Mexican Legal Weight Limit or 125,000 lbs, whichever is less, and the dimensions of the load and vehicle shall not exceed 12' wide, 15'6" high, or 110' long.
